The family of a crying German girl have issued a statement in response to a GoFundMe launched by a Welsh man.

Joel Hughes, from Pontypridd, decided to launch a crowdfunder in the wake of the girl being shown on TV crying after Germany lost 2-0 to England.

He did it in a bid to show the world that the UK is not all bad.

The relentless trolling of the girl came from England fans as Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling sealed victory over the Germans at Wembley Stadium in London last Tuesday.

But now the family of the tearful girl has issued a statement.

A statement reads: In the interests of our daughter and our family we would like to remain private however we wish to thank everyone for your amazing support.

Our daughter would like to request your generous donations go to UNICEF, knowing that your kindness will do good.

Hughes had said: Id like to think that the parents of the little girl will spend this on a nice treat for her so that she knows that not everyone from the UK is horrible and that we care.

No, I dont think this will change the world. But it can do one thing for that little girl.

England take on Denmark in the semi final of Euro 2020 tonight, having overcome Ukraine 4-0 in Rome on Saturday night thanks to a brace from captain Kane, and goals from Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire to boot.
